“Look at things as though you were seeing them either for the first time or last time. Then your time on earth will be filled with joy” —Betty Smith

And as we look to our upcoming Future’s Retreat – we look, too, at changes to the schedule and location for this conference. This will be our last Future’s Retreat Conference at Lake Tahoe. The conference will go to an every other year schedule alternating with the legislative conference every other year.

So, we plan to go out of this location with a bang!

The Future’s Retreat has always and will remain an opportunity to give our industry leaders a sneak peek so to speak into possible future trends or more in-depth look at current technology, issues and applications.

Our world continues to move in a technology driven direction and with that comes the increase uses for the communications network but also the increase vulnerability of our networks.  In the world we live in today, we will have a focus this conference on cyber, technology, change and the human spirit!  How is that for a chorus line?

Retired United States Navy Rear Admiral David G. Simpson will be our kick off keynote speaker.  Admiral Simpson is the former Chief of the FCC’s Public Safety and Homeland Security Bureau and is now an independent consultant. Admiral Simpson will walk us through “Cyber Threats – What it means to your network, 9-1-1, FirstNet and Data Centers.”  In addition to his formal and group presentation, Admiral Simpson has indicated that he’d be happy to talk one on one with individuals or small groups at the close of our morning sessions.  This is going to be an informational presentation that you and your leadership do not want to miss.

Wednesday evening, we will gather for our traditional Celebration Reception to enjoy each other’s company and to soak in the beauty of the surrounding area.

We are still finalizing and confirming some of our speakers, however, as noted above, it is going to be a conference you don’t want to miss. Thursday morning after breakfast we will delve into “The Future of Technology” (speaker invited). Continuing the technology trend our second invited speaker for Thursday (and it is someone you all have requested do numerous return performances) will take us on an understandable journey through “5G Wireless — Friend or Foe.”

And we will close out this conference with another popular and returning speaker, Dr. Lowell Catlett. Some of you may remember Dr. Catlett from his 2006 presentations to our Future’s where he talked about, “New Frontiers That Change Everything” and a second segment, “Broadband Services in the 21st Century.” And this year, Dr. Catlett will give us, “Seeing Around the Corner: The Mega Trend that Changes Everything.”  You do not want to miss this presentation or this presenter. For that matter, you don’t want to miss a moment of this conference.
